  1. 1962 Education

    Graduates in mathematics

    B.Sc. in Mathematics, Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchirappalli (University of Madras).[9]

  2. 1968 Education

    Founds the SRM Group

    The group that would carry the Shri Ramasamy Memorial name into higher education.[1]

  3. 1969 Education

    First school opens

    A primary school in K. K. Nagar, Chennai, upgraded to higher secondary level in 1981.[10]

  4. 1985 Education

    SRM Engineering College

    Established at Kattankulathur. It is the institution that became SRM Institute of Science and Technology.[2]

  5. 2002 Education

    Deemed-university status

    The college is recognised as a deemed university, able to award its own degrees.[2]

  6. 2010 Tamil

    SRM Tamil Perayam

    Established to promote and develop Tamil and to honour Tamil scholars each year.[11]

  7. 2013 Education

    Universities in Sikkim and Haryana

    SRM University, Sikkim and SRM University, Haryana are established.[4][5]

  8. 2017 Education

    SRM University, AP

    Established under Andhra Pradesh’s private universities law, with Dr. Paarivendhar as Chancellor.[3]

  9. 2018 Tamil

    Harvard Tamil Chair contribution

    ₹16 lakh towards a Tamil Chair at Harvard University, donated by Dr. Paarivendhar and students of the Paarivendhar Students Tamil Association, as reported by SRM.[8]

    Elected to the Lok Sabha

    Member for Perambalur in the 17th Lok Sabha, 23 May 2019 to 4 June 2024.[7]

§ 3 · Recognition

Recognition given through his institutions

Much of the recognition in this record flows outward: awards that institutions founded by Dr. Paarivendhar give to others. The clearest example is the SRM Tamil Perayam. Its annual awards include a ₹5 lakh Lifetime Achiever in Tamil award, a ₹2 lakh Best Tamil Scholar award and a ₹1.5 lakh Young Tamil Researcher award named after Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.[8]

At the award function on 31 January 2018, which he presided over, SRM reported that he “explained how the awardees have been selected based purely on their merit only without any bias”.[8]

SRM’s founder profile describes him as “respected as a Visionary for his service to the cause of Education and Public at large”.[1] This is the institution’s own assessment and is presented as such.
